Success with Small Fruits, 2019

Success with Small Fruits is an autobiographical exploration of identity and transformation, employing both self-portraiture and the investigation of light in a domestic space. The images, like life itself, are at times paradoxical, containing polarities in both form and content.

These photographs were made over a two year period immediately following the end of my 17 year marriage. Combined, they become a visual diary of thinking, feeling and becoming, as well as a study on the artist as both subject and object. Many photographs depict “in-between” moments, those few seconds just as something is about to begin or immediately after something has ended. During these moments one is not doing, but being. Other images contain elements that reference fecundity and growth. Their directness punctuates the otherwise contemplative series which touches on themes of agency, performance and self-representation.
